His Purpose Here For Us

Filed under: CA Pictures,CA Reports — campusalive @ 11:24 am

It was a glorious glorious day last Thursday when the first CA meeting of the semester was held. In fact, I was so terribly excited at the thought of meeting new juniors that I could barely keep still. Thankfully, all the energy went into making sure that the sketch was okay.

And not long after, Ji Dian and Samantha, chairpersons for the night began CA. Seriously, its all a blur in my mind because I was just so caught up in the whirlwind of emotions of the night. So I can’t say how we actually started or what the chairpersons said to get everyone comfortable. Samantha said a word of prayer to bless the night ahead, and that’s when we all got ready for games!

Miryam was the games master and she’s a real dear. Here’s a little secret, she had thought up of so many wonderful games, but in the end, decided on this little game that I’m sure we all had a blast with. Pity my knee started to hurt then, and I couldn’t play. Fancy myself as a little wee bit like House, wouldn’t you say? Kidding.

Anyhow, they separated us into groups based on the course that we took. However, due to the fact that certain courses dominated the rest… (ALM ROCKS. TOTALLY.) There were those who had to pretend to be from another course. Like Graham who was so totally shiok in pretending to be an ALG. Semangat betul. Miryam told us to get ourselves a number, and then form a huge circle in which each course stood behind a line. There were much hassle and fuss at this point, because there were so many of us, and simply too short a line.

We managed in the end, and whenever Miryam called out a number, the person from each course with that number had to run for the poor bottle set in the middle. Suddenly everyone became much like a raging elephant, and those slower folks could only watch as the bottle quickly became grasped by someone else. Real fun innit? AUSMAT won (cheh) and Miryam declared AUSMAT as the strongest team of the night.

Worship started right after with Larry leading. The songs sang that night were Take It All, Promises, God Of This City and Who Am I. Larry first got the crowd all jumping with the Mexican Wave with many alterations and jumping as we waved and etcetera.  I was standing at the back, and yes, it was seriously hilarious to watch. But how can one not have fun with the Mexican Wave amirite?

I felt that worship was awesome, so I’d like to give a big big thanks to the drummer Daniel Tay, pianist Theng Theng and backup singer Joanne Tay, bassist Esmond Chan, and guitarist Larry! They were fantastic, and the atmosphere in the place was just filled with God’s presence.

Samantha then led the offering session with a prayer and yes, God will multiply all that we’ve given unto Him with a sincere heart.

Later, Li Sia went up to speak about Youth Alpha, which is a discussion on Christianity. However, it isn’t as simple as that, and although you may have grown up in a Christian background, you could gain something from this discussion based groups. We’ll have this open talk where no question is taboo. Why do we suffer? Doesn’t God care about the people who suffer in poverty? In wars? Why does He allow such things? How can I allow the Holy Spirit to work more in my life? How do I have a more intimate relationship with God?

I believe that eventhough you know the answers to such questions, will you not see Youth Alpha as a means to train yourself, in order to be able to answer the questions of your non-Christians friends? Think about it, and spread the word, more so to those curious about this faith.

And after YA, it was time for a short sketch. It was about the different people and their first day in INTEC. As the person who actually wrote the sketch, I would say much were impromptu, and yes, the actors were fantastic to have been able to do so much after merely a short practice. It could have been better, and after comments, I do think another side should have been shown.

But even after all the ‘could haves’ and ‘should haves’, it was done the way it was with God’s grace and yes, thank God for giving all the actors courage to get on stage and to act in front of an audience, of which two-thirds, they did not know personally.

Isaiah 55: 8 – 9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Thank you Graham, Ji Dian, Esmond, Jonathan Wong, Larry, Daniel, Samantha, Fabiolla, J-Cyn, Joanne, Theng Theng, Miryam. Everyone was amazing.

After that it was Pastor David from Newlife Restoration Centre to tie up the loose ends. He did an awesome sermon about INTEC and the purpose and life we are to have here. He even led us to sing a song to worship Him.

Pastor David..."There is a purpose you're here!"

Pastor David..."There is a purpose you're here!"

After the sermon, surprise surprise! We brought out a cake to celebrate those who were born in the month of July! I’d really like to know the names of all those who went up, since I can only remember few from the eight that went up. J-Cyn, Tze Jun, Howard and…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wheee. There was a brief cake-cutting ceremony of sorts. And yes, we sang the last line of the Birthday song.

Happy birthday!!!

Happy birthday!!!

Various people from CA then went up to speak about Prayer Meeting held in Cemara and Cendana, and Cell Group meetings. Next week we have Cell Group, so do come! Contact Esmond. Or we’ll contact you.

It was then time for refreshments, prepared by Miryam and J-Cyn and it was there where we had an awesome time in fellowship with the new members of CA.

We’d love to hear more sharings about the first CA of the semester, and if you’d like to write something up, even a short one, do contact me! E-mail me your sharing, and I’ll put it up here. Thank you!

It was awesome just getting to know so many juniors, and yes, a remarkable, amazing night. I pray that the rest of the week would go well for the rest of us, and have a restful weekend before the hectic schedule of the semester kicks in.

God bless!

P/S: Applause needs to be given to the people involved in transport as well! Thank you so much for ferrying us to and fro Kota Kemuning! Driving isn’t all its cranked up to be. Thank you for doing His work!
